RACE REPORT | MotoGP France 2026

Jorge Martín claimed an impressive victory in a chaotic MotoGP French Grand Prix at Bugatti Circuit, beating fellow Aprilia Racing riders Marco Bezzecchi and Ai Ogura to complete a remarkable all-Aprilia podium.

The 2026 MotoGP French Grand Prix in Le Mans delivered an exciting race full of overtakes, crashes and changing positions.

The race took place under cloudy skies, and one of the biggest stories before the start was the absence of Marc Márquez, who did not take part after travelling to Madrid for surgery following his heavy crash on Saturday.

When the lights went out, Marco Bezzecchi made another excellent start and kept the lead into the first corner. Local favourite Fabio Quartararo also got away brilliantly and moved into second place, while Francesco Bagnaia dropped to fifth. After the opening lap, the top ten were Bezzecchi, Quartararo, Pedro Acosta, Bagnaia, Fabio Di Giannantonio, Ogura, Martín, Joan Mir, Enea Bastianini and Raúl Fernández.

On lap two, Álex Márquez crashed in the first sector, bringing out the first yellow flags of the race. Soon after, Acosta passed Quartararo for second place.

As the race settled down, Quartararo began to lose positions as his Yamaha lacked top speed on the straights. Bagnaia moved ahead of him on lap five, and the Frenchman gradually slipped down the order.

At the front, Bezzecchi controlled the race, while Martín worked his way forward after starting outside the top five. By lap ten, the leading group consisted of Bezzecchi, Bagnaia, Acosta, Martín and Di Giannantonio.

Another retirement followed on lap 11 when Diogo Moreira crashed after a promising run.

The biggest turning point came on lap 16. Bagnaia crashed at Turn 2 while running in second place, ending his hopes of a podium finish. That promoted Acosta to second, with Martín close behind in third.

Martín wasted little time and overtook Acosta soon afterwards to move into second place and begin chasing his Aprilia teammate. Further back, Joan Mir finally passed Quartararo, but his race ended on lap 21 when he crashed. In the same lap, Brad Binder also fell and retired.

Ogura continued his strong performance and overtook Di Giannantonio and then Acosta to move into third place, securing a provisional all-Aprilia podium.

With four laps remaining, Martín caught Bezzecchi and the two teammates fought for victory. Three laps from the finish, Martín made the decisive move and took the lead. The reigning world champion then pulled away to take a superb victory for Aprilia. Bezzecchi finished second, while rookie Ai Ogura completed a historic Aprilia 1-2-3.

Di Giannantonio passed Acosta in the closing stages to finish fourth, with the KTM rider taking fifth place after leading the early battle for the podium.
